Rules

A. General – applicable to all hikers

B. Four-day-hikers

C. Day-hikers

The three parts together form the rules and should be considered as one entity

A. General – applicable to all participants

A1. Definitions
• A four-day participant is a hiker who participates in the four-day hiking event with the intention of hiking the specified distance according to the applicable rules, and upon completion, they are eligible for a medal or keepsake.
• A day participant is a hiker who participates in the hiking event for one or more days according to the applicable rules, choosing a specific distance for each day. Even if a day hikes for four days, they are not eligible for a medal or keepsake, as these are reserved for four-day hikers.

A.2. Liability
The Stichting Internationale Vierdaagse Apeldoorn is not responsible and/or financially liable for any damage resulting from accidents and/or illness or theft of hikers’ belongings, regardless of the cause. By registering, hikers or the parents/guardians of minor hikers accept participation at their own risk and declare they are familiar with all regulations and prescriptions related to this event and accept them without reservation. Participants also agree to follow the instructions of authorized personnel, traffic controllers, and event staff. In the event that the event cannot proceed for any reason, there will be no compensation for costs and/or refund of registration fees.

A.3. Decision-making authority
In all cases not covered by these rules, or where additional or different measures are required, the board of the Stichting Internationale Vierdaagse Apeldoorn will make the final decision.
A.4. Participation
Participation in the 12 km hike is open to anyone who is 10 years or older on 31-12-2025. Longer distances are open to anyone who is 12 years or older on 31 December 2025. In case of doubt about the correct age or other incorrect data, the board has the right to refuse registration.

A.5. Maximum number of registrations per distance
Due to the unique nature of the routes, the board may decide to impose a participant limit for one or more distances.

A.6. Personal registration
Registration is personal and non-transferable. In case of doubt, the organization has the right to verify the correctness of the information provided, or, if refused, exclude the person from (further) participation.

A.7. Start times
• 12 km: between 08:30 and 11:30
• 20 km: between 07:30 and 11:00
• 30 km: between 07:00 and 10:00
• 40 km: between 06:30 and 07:30

A.8. Cancellation
You can cancel between 11:00 and 17:00 at the administration tent on the premises of v.v. Victoria Boys. If you cancel after 17:00, you are considered to have dropped out. A four-day participant who drops out can still hike the remaining days as a day participant at a self-chosen distance.

A.9. Medical examination
No medical certificate is required for participation. Participation is at your own risk.

A.10. Hiking pace
The available time for completing the routes is sufficient to cover the distance. Respect that not everyone hike at the same pace as you. Make room to be overtaken if necessary or only overtake where the paths allow. The following hiking paces are taken into account when setting the route: for the 40 km route: 7 km per hour; for 30 km: 6 km; for 20 km: 5 km and for 12 km: 4 km. If you hike faster, there is a risk that the arrows are not yet in place.
Please note the maximum passage times at the rest points. Ensure you leave on time, as the arrows may be removed.

A.11. Music and pets
It is not allowed to play audio devices audible to other hikers on the routes. Pets are not allowed on the routes with their unique character and are explicitly forbidden by some landowners. A guide dog is allowed, provided it is in function, on a leash with a vest indicating it is a guide dog.

A.12. Parking
There is ample parking space near v.v. Victoria Boys. You are strongly advised not to park cars in residential areas. Instructions from event staff must be followed. Incorrectly parked vehicles may be towed away. The organization is not liable for this.

A.13. Bicycle parking
There is ample space for parking bicycles. Instructions from event staff must be followed.

A.14. Smoking
The complex used by v.v. Victoria Boys is smoke-free. The organization of the four-day event also strives for a smoke-free hiking event. A smoking zone is available on the premises. Due to the risk of forest fires, smoking is strongly discouraged on the routes.

A.15. Use of likeness
Participants agree to the use of their likeness in print, on photo, film, video, etc., for promotional activities of the Stichting Internationale Vierdaagse Apeldoorn and the Koninklijke Wandel Bond Nederland without claiming compensation.
